Carpe Diem #1548 orchids (ran) (Troiku)

Carpe Diem #1548 Orchids (ran) (Troiku

Chevrefeuille asks us to create a haiku, tanka or other kind of Japanese poetry themed orchids (ran)

My choice is the Troiku Poem

Orchid Troiku Poem

samourai warrior

main weapon, symbol, the sword

admires a orchid

enchanted by the beauty of orchids

with self discipline

touches it gently

bows his head in praise

then with meaningful action

gently picks it up

What is is Troiku Poem? Carpe Diem invented the Troiku, it is three haiku, with each of the three lines from a suggested haiku as the first line of each haiku in the troiku. It’s not always possible to have a 5-7-5 format in the second haiku, due to the limitations of the suggested haiku.

Carpe Diem Weekend Meditation #59 Troiku – Autumn Scents

Carpe Diem Haiku Poem

the scent of autumn

that sweet smell of decaying leaves –

after the rain – stronger

Troiku Poem

the scent of autumn

with twilight lingering on

drifts around the woods

that sweet smell of decaying leaves

moss covered birch trees

beauty of nature

after rain – stronger

smells fill the cooling crisp air

with the gentle breeze

Troiku – Carpe Diem invented the Troiku, it is three haiku, with each of the three lines from a suggested haiku as the first line of each haiku in the troiku. It’s not always possible to have a 5-7-5 format in the second haiku, due to the limitations of the suggested haiku.

Don’t know what a Haiku poem is, it is a unrhymed Japanese verse consisting of three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables (5, 7, 5) or 17 syllables in all.

It is created by a vision, and paints a mental image in the reader’s mind.

Winter Tanka Poems

Winter  Tanka Poems

autumn is over
snow flurries begin to fall
golden moments gone
now celebrating winter
without winter no springtime

water tumbling down
streams rise high as the rain falls
pounding rocks rolling
new path is formed across fields
mother nature changed the scene

chilly winter day
garden was spectacular
with dusk approaching
cool air chilling the late blooms
some will not shine tomorrow

trees show many signs
true lovers of the moist earth
flourishing clean leaves
watching droplets of water
moisturising the roots below

clouds approaching fast
the swell was getting bigger
whipping the coastline
as the sea took on revenge
of a incoming rain storm

Autumn Tanka Poems

Autumn Tanka Poems

sunny sky clouds haze
mellow rich delicate air
autumn whispering
only a sad dream to me
birds migrating crops all gone

autumn leaves falling
returning back to the soil
enriching the earth
preparing for life’s cycling
economical nature

rustle of crisp leaves
drying up in mid autumn
floating all around
calms me in the gentle breeze
memories of younger years

autumn crisp and clear
fall foliage rustling gently
beneath my cool feet
in harmony with my thoughts
with soft whispers rustling by

yellow and golden
falling leaves hide the wide path
spread like a carpet
a time for maturity
harvesting the fruits of life

Tanka Poetry in Memory of Jane Reichhold

Jane Reichhold queen of haiku and tanka poetry. (1937-2017).

We can all be grateful for all that Jane has meant for the haiku and tanka world, she was one of the best modern haiku poetesses.

always remembered

a queen of Japanese poems

where life was a joy

until Illness conquer her

we all will face it one day

Five musical chord Tanka’s written by Elsie Hagley

Jane enjoyed poetry
very rich in Japanese praise
her love for tanka shone through
now blossoming in heaven
angels sing loud rejoicing

the musical chord
embracing your solitude
wish upon a star
wait those treasures will unfold
like the day tooth fairy came

born a butterfly
sometimes never to see life
music in the air
turning round to face the sun
here the bells ringing above

a loud music note
peeling from the heavens sky
time to slow life down
let the waves wash over time
rejoice in the fresh feeling

music fills the air
cool evening air flows around
resting rocking chair
drifting into a dazed sleep
brings memories courting days

All About Writing Tanka Poetry, plus 3 Tanka Poems

What is English Tanka Poetry? – a Verse that consists of five units, usually in the following pattern of 5-7-5-7-7 which is syllables.

What is a syllable? a unit of pronunciation having one vowel sound, with or without surrounding consonants, forming the whole or a part of a word; for example, there are two syllables in water and three in inferno.

The first three lines (5/7/5) are the upper phase. This upper stage is where you create an image in your reader’s mind.

The last two lines (7/7) of a Tanka poem are called the lower phase. The final two lines should express the poet’s ideas about the image that was created in the three lines above.

Why I Write Tanka Poetry?  Tanka poems is one type of poetry that I’m drawn to, I have written many in the last two years. Fortunately, I’m not in competition with other types of poetry, as I write many forms of poetry, plenty of sonnets, haiku/senryu or free verse, which I will be sharing in this blog.

Why Do I Write Tanka Poems? Learning how to write them well helped me to more aware of myself, and more aware of all the other styles of writing poetry.

Tanka also was a way for me to express thoughts of the world around me and present beautiful images in a tradition way through poems.

Three Tanka Poems

Primroses Everywhere

pretty small faces

peeping out amongst the noise

wind still blowing strong

still a welcome sight to see

giving me a smile today

The Sound of Water Falling

the water streaming

over cliffs cleaned by the force

the sound tremendous

internal peace took over

my body in a dazed state.

View of Goats

mountain ledge was steep

green bushes grew on the slopes

goats loved to folic

hope the sloops are not slippery

wouldn’t like to see them fall

Free Form Poetry – MAGIC is Everywhere

Free Form Poetry – MAGIC is Everywhere

sunset or sunrise

hiding in all the little nooks

all around the world

you will find MAGIC

the music of the wind

whispering in the trees

buzzing of the bees

birds singing in the treetops

MAGIC is everywhere

flowers nodding their head

just look around in the shadows

the laughter of children

believe in magic you will find it.

Free Verse – No limitations – What is the difference between blank verse and free verse? The difference is in the structure. Both blank verse and free verse are free from rhyme scheme. But, whereas blank verse does have a consistent meter, usually iambic pentameter, that creates a du-DUM rhythm effect, free verse is free from both meter and rhyme. It is free from the limitations of verse poetry.

Resting Octopus – Tanka Poem

Tanka with deep thoughts from within – that vision is recorded in my mind – a haiku or tanka must come from a vision, my vision was the photo below when I first glimpse it.

curled up in clamshell
totally lost while resting
careless of surrounds
the beauty of that moment
lives in my body forever

An ocellated (spotted) octopus using a clamshell as a shelter

Hello world!

Welcome to my world,  writing poetry, the love of my life, I’m lost without it.

Here is my first thought – a quote,

“Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen.”

― Leonardo da Vinci

Poetry coming soon.
